National Apprenticeship Week is a yearly celebration of the benefits apprenticeships have, not only to students, but to employers as well! It’s a chance to showcase the brilliant opportunities that apprenticeships can bring to employers, individuals and the wider economy.

On an apprenticeship, you are employed and get paid a wage whilst still studying towards a formal qualification. You will usually have day or block release from your job to complete the qualification alongside your apprenticeship.

They’re a brilliant way to get experience in the workplace whilst still learning the theory of your job through your formal qualification – the best of both worlds!

Apprenticeships are usually a combination of assessed course work and exams as well including formal reviews of your experience in the workplace.

The Apprenticeship Levy is a UK tax on employers which is used to fund apprenticeship training. Introduced at the start of the 2017/18 tax year, it is payable by all employers with an annual pay bill of more than £3 million, at a rate of 0.5% of their total pay bill.

If you choose to employ an apprentice, you can claim back 95% – 100% of the cost to employ and train the apprentice depending on the size of your business. The levy is designed to put apprenticeship funding in the hands of employers and encourage them to invest in and create apprenticeships.
