    Course overview

The aim of this course is to provide an understanding of Li-ion cells, battery packs and battery management systems, and their typical application to electric vehicles. This course is suitable for delegates new to batteries and delegates intending to develop platforms for use in electric transport, particularly electric vehicles.

    Additional information

The course will include an overview of the Li-ion cells and battery packs alongside the different types of cells and chemistries used in electric vehicles.

Following on from the introduction, the course will then progress to a greater level of understanding on the areas applicable to Li-ion battery pack usage in electric vehicles including the battery lifecycle, main system components, testing/modelling approaches and primary control strategies.

    The topics covered are:

    • Cell/pack overview (definitions, background info etc.)
    • Cell safety
    • Cell ageing
    • Battery pack as a system
    • Battery Management System
    • Fast charging methods and trends
    • Cell transportation and transportation testing
    • Future cell developments
    • Cell modelling and simulation
    • Charging strategies
    • Cell testing methods
    • Cell disposal and second life
    • State estimation (SoC/SoH)
    • Case studies on BMS and battery pack design.
